OSCAR winning actor Joaquin Phoenix has reportedly announced that he is to retire from Hollywood at the age of 34 to pursue a career in music.
The Walk The Line star reportedly announced his intentions while attending a fundraising event for the children's charity of late actor Paul Newman on Monday, October 27 (2008).
He told Extra that "I'm not doing films anymore", adding: "I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."
Phoenix's brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, who is married to Summer Phoenix, later told reporters that he believed that Phoenix wasn't kidding.
Phoenix has recently completed the romantic drama Two Lovers alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, which premiered at the London Film Festival to widespread acclaim.
But he apparently picked up the music bug while completing Walk The Line, in which his vocal skills [as Johnny Cash] were widely applauded when he recorded the soundtrack.
He actually won him a Grammy award for his work on the project and is currently working on an album with Tim Burgess, lead singer of UK group The Charlatans.
