Game Five of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park has been officially suspended in the sixth inning due to rain.
With rain gradually getting heavier throughout the game and the temperature dropping into the high-30s, the contest was stopped after the Tampa Bay Rays tied the game at 2-2 with the Philadelphia Phillies in the top of the sixth.
The game is expected to be completed on Tuesday, starting with the bottom of the sixth inning, with the Rays needing to win to remain in the World Series with the Phillies holding a 3-1 lead in the series.
"I can't tell you when we'll resume," MLB commissioner Bud Selig said. "We'll stay here if we have to celebrate Thanksgiving here."
Tuesday was originally supposed to be a travel day for the teams should the Rays have extended the World Series to at least six games.
"The weather is supposed to be worse," said MLB chief operating officer Bob DuPuy.
Philadelphia were looking to clinch the city's first championship in any of the four major sports in a quarter century after the NBA's 76ers swept the Los Angeles Lakers in 1983.
